  • This training provides participants with an introduction to a variety of “at risk” deaf populations, to include those with idiosyncratic language use, immigrants and refugees, those with intellectual disabilities, those with severe mental illness and Native Americans.The training will explore deeply the role of the interpreter in mitigating the “risk” for these populations, particularly when working as a member of a service provision team.It will also explore in depth a variety of interpreting techniques not commonly used when interpreting for the American deaf population in general.Finally, participants will have the opportunity to apply their learning in a live mock interpreting scenario.The entire training will be focused on employment contexts from application through training and evaluations.

  • This course is designed for students in interpreter education programs at St. Catherine University, Lone Star College, William Woods University, and Goshen College.
  • This offering is the UNconference for Nebraska RID.
