Karen Malcolm is an interpreter and interpreter educator based in the Vancouver, Canada area. She has been interpreting in a wide range of settings for 27 years, and holds the Certificate of Interpretation (COI) from the Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada (AVLIC). Currently she specializes in interpreting in mental health and medical settings. She has been teaching interpreting to both novice and experienced interpreters for 20 years, and holds a Masters of Science in Education (Teaching Interpreting) from Western Maryland College. Skills that she teaches include consecutive interpreting, simultaneous interpreting, and interpreting into contact sign, as well as interpreting in mental health and medical settings. She has taught workshops and courses throughout Canada and the U.S., including a year at Gallaudet University, in the M.A. in Interpretation program. She is currently faculty in the Program of Sign Language Interpretation at Douglas College, New Westminster, BC.
Doug Bowen-Bailey works as an interpreter, mentor and resource developer. He recently served on the CIT Board as the Director of Technology and Communications, and currently works with the CATIE Center as the webmaster for www.medicalinterpreting.org. He works extensively with the NCIEC to help develop online modules for interpreting in medical and mental health settings.
