CD-ROMs related to Medical Settings

The following is a list of CD-ROMs which can be beneficial for professional development related to medical settings. This page has a brief description of each CD-ROM. The PDF file of the CD, available for download, contains all the written information from the CD, including diagrams, written summaries and transcripts, suggestions for use, and links to information on the internet. (Reading PDF requires Adobe Reader - free download.) Because the quality of video on the CD is so high, it takes up much more space than is possible to include on the web. So, a page is included with video excerpts from the CD to give you an idea of what is included. (Video requires QuickTime - free download.)

STOMACH THIS!
The Digestive System in American Sign Language and English

This CD, produced by Todd Tourville, represents a coordinated effort to bring technical information from a college level-setting to working interpreters and ITP students. On the CD-ROM, you will see a digestive system lecture presented by Paul Buttenhoff, an Assistant Professor at the College of St. Catherine and Cara Barnett, a Deaf Instructor with the University of Minnesota's ASL program. The lectures cover the same material and are excellent tools for interpreters and students to use when working to improve their receptive and expressive skills. In addition, the CD contains short warmup lectures by both presenters, transcripts of the English lectures, outline notes from the ASL lectures, and materials for preparation, such as a list of specialized vocabulary, a diagram of the digestive system, and links to the internet for further research. (2002)
